In the recent Fulton County Superior Court case of Margaret Jones and Associates v. Perry Homes Redevelopment (2003CV9479), plaintiff Margaret Jones, a veteran Atlanta public relations consultant, sued to recover fees owed her for work in helping prepare the winning proposal for the $400 million Perry Homes Redevelopment Project. Jones never had a written contract with any of the other parties involved in the proposal, and, by the time the trial occurred, over a decade had passed since the project was awarded, during which time Jones had never been paid anything for her services.

Decatur, GA—In the recent DeKalb County State Court trial, Zarinah Ali and Sheneeka Bradsher v. Stan Watson (13A47805), the two plaintiffs filed suit against DeKalb Commissioner Stan Watson for slander, false imprisonment and battery as a result of a July, 2012, incident at the Tanqueray Lounge in Decatur. Both Watson and the plaintiffs, Zarinah Ali and Sheneeka Bradsher, were at the lounge that evening.

Recent Georgia Railroad Injury Case Highlights Differences between Georgia and Federal Law

Atlanta—As Fulton County Superior Court Judge Alford Dempsey read the verdict in the recent case of Winfred Evans v. Norfolk Southern Railway Company and Professional Transportation, Inc. (2012CV223527), one item of damages was somewhat unusual. The jury awarded damages against both defendants for past and future lost earnings of plaintiff Winfred Evans, but the amount awarded against Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI), was larger than the amount awarded against Norfolk Southern Railway Company. The differing damage awards illustrated one of the differences between trying a case under Georgia tort law and under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA), 45 U.S.C. § 51 et seq.
