Dallas, TX— As the first wave of opioid lawsuits moves toward trial, the nation’s top attorneys and legal industry experts will meet in Dallas this June to discuss critical approaches to the groundswell of litigation that will put billions of dollars at stake.

The Opioid Litigation Conference, hosted by Perrin Conferences on June 6, will provide attorneys and legal professionals a deep-dive into the nuances and latest developments key to navigating the web of claims against the nation’s drug manufacturers and distributors over a national opioid epidemic that counts millions of potential victims.

Chaired by Christopher Carroll, of Kennedys CMK LLP, and Jeffrey Simon of Simon Greenstone Panatier, the day-long gathering will feature a host of topics, ranging from an analysis of recent defense dismissal attempts to the best approaches to damage claims.

“The opioid epidemic is the largest drug epidemic in American history,” Simon told CVN, noting more than 130 Americans die every day from opioids. “This drug epidemic calls for action and accountability. The Perrin Conference assembles leading medical, legal, and law enforcement experts from around the world to discuss how to best address and reduce this social and economic devastation.”

There are now more than 1,000 opioid-related cases in the country’s federal and state courts. On May 28,  trial is scheduled to begin in Norman, Oklahoma against Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen Pharmaceuticals subsidiary and Teva Pharmaceutical. In April, Purdue Pharma, which had been named as a defendant in the Oklahoma case, settled with the state for $270 million.

With defendants facing potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in liability, and claims likely working through federal and state courts for years to come, the Opioid Litigation Conference will serve as a critical forum on strategies for managing the litigation. Speakers include a Who’s Who among the nation’s top pharmaceutical litigation firms, including Motley Rice’s Joseph Rice, Reed Smith’s John Ellison, and Perdue & Kidd’s Jim Perdue.

"Along with our conference co-chairs, who are renowned experts in the field of opioid litigation, we have assembled a full-day program focusing on the latest developments and predictions for where the litigation is headed next,” said Lynnsey Perrin, President and CEO of Perrin Conferences. “The Opioid Litigation Conference provides excellent networking opportunities, as both plaintiff and defense attorneys attend, along with in-house counsel, insurance professionals, consultants, experts, and judges – we work hard to ensure that the content is relevant to all audiences and attracts a diverse group.”

Registration for the conference, at Dallas’s Omni Hotel, is currently underway. For more information and to register, click here.
