J&J and Colgate score win at 1st Cosmetic talc trial in Kentucky
A Kentucky state court jury returned a defense verdict in favor of Johnson & Johnson and Colgate-Palmolive in the first trial in the state over alleged cancer risks associated with the company’s cosmetic talc products.
The jury deliberated for less than an hour after hearing closing arguments earlier in the day in a trial that began in early July.
The full trial was webcast and recorded gavel-to-gavel by Courtroom View Network.
Long-running New Jersey J&J talc/meso trial heads to closing arguments
Closing arguments are set to begin the week of September 2nd in a talc/mesothelioma trial involving Johnson & Johnson that has been underway since July 15.
The trial, which is being webcast and recorded by CVN, is the first involving multiple plaintiff claims being heard by the same jury in a J&J talc/meso case.
The four plaintiffs, who all claim they developed mesothelioma by inhaling asbestos supposedly present in J&J’s baby powder, are represented by Levy Konigsberg LLP, Simon Greenstone Panatier PC, and Cohen Placitella & Roth APC.
J&J is represented by Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP, which secured defense verdicts for the company in the two prior talc trials in the same court.
Two J&J talc/meso trials get underway in Los Angeles County.
After a months-long pause, talc/meso trials are once again getting underway in Los Angeles County.
One trial, which will be webcast and recorded by CVN, is a retrial after a previous jury in 2018 deadlocked.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs in both cases had asked a judge to consolidate them into a single trial, but that request was denied earlier this month. Both plaintiffs are represented by Simon Greenstone Panatier PC.
First Georgia cosmetic talc trial begins Sept. 9
The first cosmetic talc trial in the state of Georgia heads to trial in September.
Besides being the first cosmetic talc trial in the state, it also marks the first ovarian cancer-related talc trial since a Missouri jury returned a $4.7 billion verdict in the summer of 2018.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs and Johnson & Johnson told the presiding judge in a joint filing in August that a settlement in the case was unlikely and that further mediation efforts would likely not be productive.
The trial will be the first talc case involving the The Beasley Allen Law Firm outside of Missouri. The Alabama-based firm secured a number of the initial plaintiff verdicts in ovarian cancer talc cases in St. Louis, Missouri in 2016 and 2017.
