Fort Lauderdale, FL— The nation’s two largest tobacco companies were hit with a $148 million punitive verdict Friday, capping a $157 million total award for the death of a Florida smoker. Jonesboro, GA— Jurors Wednesday handed down an $8 million verdict against a trucking firm after finding one of its drivers responsible for the 2015 crash that injured a Georgia motorcyclist. Stevens v. J.R.K. Trucking, et al., 2018-CV-01518.

Fort Lauderdale, FL— In what is likely Florida's first wrongful death tobacco case brought by a same-sex surviving spouse to go to trial, jurors Thursday awarded $9.2 million in compensatory damages, and found punitives potentially warranted, for the role they found Philip Morris and R.J. Reynolds played in a smoker’s death. Caprio v. Philip Morris, 2007-CV-036719.
