Following the $23.6 billion punitive award in Cynthia Robinson v. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the largest award to-date in Florida’s Engle progeny tobacco suits, Courtney Svajian interviewed loss-of-life compensation expert Ken Feinberg on the verdict and its impact. Although Feinberg said he believes the award is an aberration that won’t be upheld, he said it could serve as the impetus for tobacco companies to consider alternatives to resolve remaining Engle progeny cases.
