Update: Plaintiff voluntarily dismissed her claims without prejudice under O.C.G.A. 9-11-41.

Decatur, GA— Trial is scheduled to begin next week against a Georgia doctor accused of delivering an epidural injection a patient claims has left her with lifelong nerve damage. Barlow v. Ford, et al., 16A61806.

According to court documents in the case, Joy Barlow contends she suffered cauda equina syndrome, or damage to the bundle of nerves below the end of her spinal cord, because of a 2015 epidural injection delivered by Dr. Justin Ford, a pain management physician treating Barlow while she was hospitalized for severe back pain.

Barlow claims Ford failed to obtain a neurosurgery or spine surgery consultation and administered the injection in such a way that it aggravated pressure on the nerve bundle, ultimately damaging it permanently.

Ford and employer Northside Anesthesiology Consultants counter that the doctor’s treatment was conservative, appropriate, and in Barlow’s best interest, according to court documents. They also claim Ford’s treatment did not injure Barlow.
