Orlando, FL— Disney’s U.S. park and resort subsidiary is scheduled to face trial next week over claims a Disney World guest suffered long-term injuries when a bussing cart ran over her foot. Wilson v. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S. Inc., 2015-CA-003347.
According to court records, Jessica Wilson contends a Disney employee ran over her foot with a service bussing cart at Walt Disney World's Landscape of Flavors restaurant in June 2013. Wilson claims the accident has led to complex regional pain syndrome, a form of chronic pain.
Disney counters in trial documents that Wilson bears responsibility for the accident, according to court documents.
The six-day trial will feature a bevy of high-profile attorneys from both Florida and Georgia. Atlanta’s Nelson Tyrone, of the Tyrone Law Firm, and Mooney Colvin’s John Colvin, from Orlando, are representing Wilson and her husband Mark. Disney is represented by Kurt Spengler and Raychel Garcia from Wicker Smith, one of Florida’s leading defense firms.
Disney’s U.S. parks and resorts subsidiary is one of the jewels in the entertainment titan’s crown, with its domestic parks and resorts alone earning more than $14 billion in fiscal year 2017 revenue, according to the company’s financial documents.
Jury selection in the case, presided over by Ninth Circuit Court Judge Luis Calderon, is expected to begin Monday. CVN will cover the trial gavel-to-gavel, with on-demand video available as soon as possible after each session.
